Tell Us About An Event Or Something Else You Think Ramblers And Walkers In Dorset Would Like To Know About

Non-Commercial Items

If you have a walking event or charity challenge to tell us about the ideal format is a title or 1 to 2 lines of text summarising the subject and the URL of a web site page giving full details and access any applicable forms. This format is suitable for online use, entry into Footnotes and forwarding by e-mail. Having the bulk of the details in one place online reduces the effort you may get as a result of any changes to you event. Please note if you are sending something about an event or that has a time element currently we have only one means of distributing information that is available to all the Ramblers members in Dorset. Our Dorset Footnotes newsletter is distributed 3 times a year with the walks program. The editor may accept items for publication and adverts of a suitable nature When sending information to the Footnotes editor please note that deadlines will apply. Typically these will be:

  • For the Summer edition (July to October) May 1st.
  • For the Autumn/Winter edition (November to February) September 1st.
  • For the Spring Edition (March to June) January 1st.

Items for Dorset Footnotes should be sent to the editor via .

Obviously material can be added to this web site at shorter notice and requests should be sent to  . (Please note there is no webmaster e-mail address because it would attract spam). However not all members are expected to access this site and distribution via our Footnotes magazine is the only effective method to communicate with all members.

General Information for Walk Event Planners

The LDWA event guide contains a wealth of information that could help if you are planning a walking or similar event. Although it provides a lot of information it is worth working through the all material to determine which parts are applicable to your event. If your event involves using the South West coast path, beach areas or other coastal features it is advisable to let the coast guard operation team know about it prior to the event.

Coast Path Information for Walk Event Planners

The  Dorset section of the South West Coast path is often used as part of walking events but as well as providing spectacular walking scenery the coast path also has some of the same hazards as mountain areas. Key ones being proximity to cliffs with no protection, rapid weather changes any time of year and steep accents & descents that can be very difficult when wet plus hard work. As well as making participants aware of this it is advisable to make the Coastguard aware of the event details prior to the event e.g. date/time, section of path, contact details for event controllers etc. Plus let them know on the day that the event has started and when all participants have finished using the coast path. It is not unusual for more than one event to be taking place on the same day so having information makes it easier for the coast guard to help if an incident occurs. The Coastguardcontact details are
