THE RAMBLERS
|
East Dorset Group is one of five groups within Dorset Area |
|
Path ClearingThis is one of the most important activities of East Dorset Group and one that has been carried out over many years. It contributes to the charitable aims of the Ramblers, is an opportunity to improve the walking environment and is of benefit to all walkers. Look at the pictures on this page to see what can be achieved in one session! |

Local Authority ResponsibilityThe Local Authority cannot maintain all the public rights of way in the county owing to financial and workforce constraints, so the Group liaises with the Rights of Way Team at Dorset County Council for suggestions of paths to be cleared. Additionally, members are encouraged to let us know of any problems they encounter when walking in the East Dorset Group area.

Could you help? The Group supplies all the tools necessary (including gloves) for the work of lopping branches and cutting back undergrowth.
In the winter of 2008 ⁄ 09, our small band of volunteers cleared paths in the parishes of Alderholt, Chalbury, Steeple and Wareham St. Martin, which gives an idea of the variety of locations where the work is carried out, although you might be surprised to learn that the pictures on this page, from a path clearing in February 2010, were taken about 2 miles from the Square in Bournemouth town centre. So please come along and lend a hand in this important and rewarding work. Contact us and we will put you in touch with the East Dorset Group officer in charge of path clearing work. |
